MEALS ON TOUR: Breakfast and one other meal is included. The breakfasts in all of the hotels are international buffets. For dinners you can order from the menu within a certain budget range (generous). Fellow winos--bad news. After Prague we are in beer country. The beers are excellent and a good value. The wines are overpriced (A Fetzer Zinfandel was priced at $50 at one Warsaw restaurant.) I am budgeting a liter of beer each at dinner. You may substitute other beverages within that price range.

THE FINAL SOLUTION: Hitler's genocide policies hit Poland and Krakow particularly hard. We will spend most of Wednesday, June 6, trying to come to terms with the enormity of these unthinkable crimes. We will go first to Auschwitz and Birkanau and then to the Jewish Quarter in Krakow in the late afternoon. We will end the day at the Ariel, a Jewish restaurant that features talented folk music entertainers.

WARSAW was devastated by W.W.II. The Warsaw uprising that began on August 1, 1944, resulted in the total destruction of the Old Town Square pictured on the right. When the uprising began, the Red Army was already in the suburbs of Warsaw. Inexplicably they did not enter the fight. The insurgents were able to hold out against the vastly superior forces, but eventually they surrendered and were slaughtered. The Nazis then blew up what buildings were left standing. And only then did the Red Army enter the city.

MUSEUMS: Good luck in making your choices of museums to visit. There are too many good ones to see in the day and a half that we have. Read your guidebook, pick three or four, go to them and figure that you will come back sometime to see the others.
Dinner TBA: Notice that I have not chosen restaurants for our last two nights. I'm deliberately waiting to see what we are in the mood for. We may feel that we have overdone the Central Europe cuisine at that point and I may choose another ethnic cuisine--Thai, Chinese, or Italian.
